Part 1 – The Journey of a Million Miles Begins with a Single Step

This is your invitation to join me on an adventure.

Yes, I’m talking to you.

No matter how old you are. Young or old.

No matter how in-shape or out-of-shape you are. Big or small.

No matter how many times you’ve started something and haven’t followed through or finished.

Come along with us—Walk, Run, Swim, Bike, Row, Crawl, Dance—all the way to A Million Miles.

The whole reason I began #AMillionMilesWithKim is because people just like you found me on social media and needed a safe place to connect with others.

You’ve probably read elsewhere on this site that I’m not a nutritionist, not a health professional, not a professional athlete, not a fitness professional. (So here’s your disclaimer: Always talk to your physician before starting any exercise or eating plan.)

My full-time job is as an author. Yep, I write books. Not exactly the most sedentary occupation, but close. I sat and read research. Sat and wrote. Sat and edited. Sat and planned out the next book and the next.

A few months ago, I started a new journey for myself. As I posted tiny snippets about it (just to be real and transparent with my readers), messages trickled in from all over the world.

It spurred this idea of #AMillionMilesWithKim to simmer in my mind. It took some doing, but we’re finally here and I’m excited to launch it.

I set a lofty goal. The focus is not on the scale, tape measures, or clothing sizes. (Although victories in those areas are great.) But if we fixate on that, we’re not going to make lasting habits for change. So our focus is on the finish line. We can reach it together. And by the time we reach a million miles, my hope is that we will all be healthier, be a bit more active, and have fun living our lives.

Ready to join me?

  1. I am curious. And interested. But tentative. I got here to this post from Part 2. I figured I should read Part 1 first. So I’ll go on to Part 2.

  2. Im in!
I started my health journey in March.
When my Triglycerides were at very dangerous levels. It was time to take things a bit more serious!

  4. Sounds great! But I’m not sure how to track it. I ride my recumbent bike several days a week and take short walks a few times a week. I’ve never had much success with pedometers. They always wind up falling off and getting broken. But, I’ll ride and walk with the million miles in mind.

Does your bike show you how far you’ve gone? Perhaps you could look up how many miles you can go on a recumbent bike at a slow/moderate/fast pace in an hour and then just time yourself and you can have at least an idea of what to log 🙂

  5. So glad you started this Kim. I had a knee replacement in March and have healed well. This will definitely get me back in the habit of moving again. I look forward to joining you as we move our way to a million miles.

  6. Just joined! I’ve finished a few Conqueror challenges and also participated in the 99 Walks. But life got crazy in 2022 and I quit my walking and exercise. Time to get back to it! This will be fun.

  7. Thanks for the inspiration, I’m working towards ” healthier” choices in all realms, but overcommitted [one realm], prevents me from adding yet another blog to keep up with, tho love your writting and your friend Tricia Goyer! Would love a read your book: Marks of GRACE!!!
