Birthdays and Bike Shortages

Yesterday was my birthday. It was a fabulous day. So many friends made it special, and my husband spoiled me. But as I posted on social media. I was able to PRE-order a bicycle. Apparently there’s a bike shortage in the US. I had no idea. Because for the most part, I stay at home and write, teach music lessons, and frankly don’t leave the house a whole lot. Except to go to church, lead Bible study, and then a game or two of golf each week. I know… I lead such an exciting life.

Anyway, back to the bike. I had been wanting one for almost a year. I’ve thought about it over and over and finally decided it would be fun to get one for my birthday. I had gift cards from friends and family that I could use. Perfect, right? Until I actually started looking to purchase the one I had picked out months and months ago before the pandemic changed our “normal.” I had no idea we were in a bike shortage. No clue. I knew there had been a toilet paper shortage at one point, and when we traveled to our daughter’s wedding, I heard there was a coin shortage. But bikes? Apparently so.

So now, I get to wait for one of my birthday presents. I even ordered a bell and baskets for it, because yes, I’m that cutesy. But they will arrive next week, long before my new bike. So if you hear me dinging my new bike bell, I’m just passing the time waiting with joy for the day I can cruise on my new bike in the future. ๐Ÿ™‚

In the meantime, I better find a helmet…
Happy reading!

  2. Happy Birthday Kimberley! I rode a bike in my neighborhood when I was in my seventies. You are on My Favorite Authors List. I started reading your books when you wrote with Tracie Peterson. I have read all of her books including those with you and others. When I find an AWESOME Author I stick with them. I have always loved to read. Keep writing.

  4. HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Go ahead and ring that bell whenever you want. It’s your birthday month. If you’re over 30 you get to have birthday months instead of one day.

I saw on TV several weeks ago that bikes are.in very short supply everywhere, bus especially in areas where people can bike instead of take mass transit. Another thing that is hard to come by are affordable camping trailers. People are camping instead of hoteling. ๐Ÿ™„ Who would expect that to happen?

  5. Happy birthday! When my daughter took her bike in for a tube-up, I also found the repair places are so busy, that you have to have an appointment. Have fun with your bicycle.
