From Becca:
The first time I met Kim, she invited me to her home and told me to bring my whip. We were standing in a Christian bookstore after a local chapter meeting of American Christian Fiction Writers. I wasn’t sure how to respond. I didn’t own a whip. And since the topic under discussion was my romance novel, well…let’s just say the image of a whip in that context made me blush. Turns out Kim was talking about my WIP, or work in progress. I was so new to the writing world, I had no idea what the acronym meant. It was the first of many things Kim would teach me. She took me into her home and into her heart. She taught me how to write for publication instead of writing for the fun of it. She taught me to have patience when I cook. She taught me to go deeper into my own heart and into the heart of God. She mentored me, loved me, lugged me from one side of the country to the other, laughed with me—and at me sometimes, but only when deserved—and made my life richer. I had no idea she was THE Kimberley Woodhouse. She was just my friend. Over the years, we’ve shared many firsts: novels published, awards earned, and trips to new places to name a few. We now look forward to many more, only this time not just as friends. This time as family.
From Kimberley:
When the beautiful Becca Whitham entered into my life a decade ago, I had no idea what God would do through our friendship. I have been blessed beyond measure by this lady. Not only is she one of my dearest friends, but all of us in the Woodhouse family adopted her and Nathan back during his first deployment. (Poor guy hadn’t even met us yet. He didn’t have much choice in the matter.) For some odd reason, she has stuck with me. Through thick and thin. (Even driving from Oklahoma to Colorado to help out after I had emergency surgery! Now that’s sacrifice.) She is one of the most brilliant writers I’ve ever known, and she makes the most beautiful cards you’ve ever seen. (Make sure you check out her crafty blog!)
Now, all these years later, we’ve seen our share of craziness. Our husbands send us off to hang out with one another and support all our writerly endeavors. We’ve traveled on book tours all over the country, gone sight-seeing, researched, laughed, cried, sang, crafted, and attended writer’s retreats and conferences together. It’s all been such a joy.
#TheAuthorMoms Bio:
When Becca’s husband—a chaplain in the Army—deployed in 2010, he challenged her to do something with all the stories she’d written over the years. She went to a local ACFW meeting where she met Kim who was the President of the chapter. They shared an instant connection which turned into a dear friendship. Over the years their bond grew despite twelve moves to eight different states and thirty-five books with all the ensuing deadlines and chaos between the two of them. Their personal friendship gave them an incredible foundation for their professional work together: critique group, The Write Nook, editing services, and lots of collaboration. Kim and Becca often joke about sharing royalties since there’s so much of each other interwoven into their separate publications (which have won or finaled in twelve awards.) Their love of story and deep bond has made their adventures a thing of beauty. They’ve traveled together for book tours, research trips, writing conferences, and much more. But their greatest adventure–so far– was when their kids fell in love. In 2020 these two friends became in-laws and “The Author Moms” was born.
