First, I have to say, “Thank you.” To all of you. All who’ve prayed, sent notes, messages, cards, emails, etc. It has been an extremely difficult year with loss and heartache, surgery, and lots of hospital visits– BUT our God is in control. And I’m so thankful for that.
Second, most of you know that we are pretty private. With all the publicity we’ve had over the years, we tend to keep a lot to ourselves. And that’s not always a good thing. So many of you have reached out and let us know you were praying — thank you SO much for that.
Third, thank you for being patient with me. 🙂
Now for the update:
Kayla’s health has gone downhill over the past year and a half. There’s no reasoning behind it. No answers. Just lots of questions. We are praising the Lord and so very thankful that it doesn’t have anything to do with her brain (and her brain decompression surgery she had seven years ago)- her MRI and MRA came back good. The EEG came back good. Sleep test – good. Blood test after blood test after blood test – good. That’s what we know. That’s what we are so thankful for–lots of good news. But yes, there are still issues. She’s had trouble waking on her own (one two-week stretch was especially difficult), balance issues, vision issues, headaches, blacking out, extreme fatigue, etc. Her neurologist is “concerned” – but is also encouraging us that we will figure this out. It may be a long haul. It may be difficult. Please remember that Kayla has two extremely rare diagnoses. It’s not like we are expecting immediate answers (although that would be nice!) 🙂 but we know that Kayla is in the Lord’s hands. I know it is a little discouraging for her when she’s had so many “good” and even “great” years, but she’s got an incredible spirit and a very positive attitude. She might be slowed down just a wee bit by all this, but for the most part, she’s doing very well. We are continuing on. She’s still writing passionately and enjoying life.
Again, thank you all for being prayer warriors, friends, and encouragers. God’s got this. We are praising Him for all He’s done.

Kim, you are such an inspiration to all of us. Your persistent hold on God’s hand, your persistent trust in His will, constantly remind me to keep looking up! Thanks for letting us all in on some of these details. I will continue praying for all of you. Please pray for a 39 year old friend of mine who is facing some tough stuff over cancer. She goes to the Mayo Clinic on Christmas Day for pre-op appointments on the 26, and surgery on the 27. She, too, has this persistence in trusting God.

Kim, Thanking God with you for all the things that this is not. Praying for wisdom for doctors and medical attendants to be on their best game when examining, testing, and interpreting the state of Kayla’s health.
These days are not kind to you, but God’s divine purpose is to show you kindness. God bless you and your family with hope, courage, faith that moves mountains and unspeakable joy while you live in His grace.

Kim and Kayla,
I am watching the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition about your family. I am truly awed by the strength that Kayla and your whole family has.
I believe Kayla is one of God’s Angels sent here to share His love and to teach others about perseverance and faith!
I pray that this comment finds everyone well!
God Bless!!!!
