Eleven Years In the Making

When I teach at conferences, I often get asked by new writers about the length of the journey to publication. In our world of instant-everything, it’s still hard for people to understand what it takes to put a quality book into the hands of readers. And the TIME it takes.

To put it all in perspective? Last year was the tenth anniversary of my first book’s release. There have been twenty plus books published since the first publications in 2009, and many more written. I’m looking forward – prayerfully –  to many more.

What is so exciting and prompting this post is the fact that I was privileged to sign another contract with Bethany House – and this time for my series set at the Grand Canyon. It will be the El Tovar Series and will begin with A Canyon Sunrise – releasing in October of 2021. (Get excited, people!!!!!!)

In the publishing world, we’re always talking about books that are releasing well into the future because of the time it takes to write, edit, design, market, and everything else! But if we really want to talk about the timeline? This story started for me back in 2009.

Back when my kids were little teenagers (and not married or working on Master’s degrees!)

We went to the Grand Canyon and these story ideas first emerged. They’ve been simmering in my brain for many years. And now it’s SO exciting to get to share them with you all!
Be watching over the next year as I share cool research and excitement for this brand new series that I can’t wait for you to read. For now, I’m just going to share some fun pictures with you from that first trip. Like this picture of the Grand Canyon… that you can’t actually see because a snowstorm snuck up on us in a matter of seconds.

Josh and I had entirely too much fun trying to point out one of the most incredible wonders of the world – that you couldn’t tell was there! And then we laughed. A lot.

See? That’s the Grand Canyon behind us 🙂 If you look really hard, maybe you can see… snow?
What was even better was sharing the experience with my kids and dear friend Heather who joined us on the trip.

And now, I’ll be heading back to the Grand Canyon and El Tovar so I can share all the amazingness with you. So keep watching!

Enjoy the Journey,

Kimberley

  1. The first time I saw the Grand Canyon was when my husband and I visited it at sunrise for our 19th anniversary. Walking to the rim, seeing it stretch out before us as the day dawned- I literally bawled. It was that beautiful. Blessings as you weave the handiwork of our Creator into your captivating stories!
